Insulin Manager
High blood sugar and blood sugar imbalances are a major problem in our society. Stable blood sugar levels help you to enjoy good energy, mental clarity, fat-burning, and quality sleep. When your blood sugar is out of balance it can result in fatigue, weight gain, brain fog, irritability, and poor-quality sleep.
When we eat sugar or carbohydrates our digestive system converts these larger molecules into glucose which is then absorbed into the bloodstream and taken to every cell of the body. Blood sugar fuels the cells keeping them healthy. For healthy function, it is critical to maintain stable blood sugar levels.
WHAT ARE THE DANGERS OF ELEVATED BLOOD SUGAR?
When blood sugar is elevated the sugar molecules connect to protein enzymes in the body producing sticky enzymes in a process called glycation. These glycation products are named advanced glycolytic enzymes (AGEs) and they produce rampant amounts of oxidative stress, inflammation, and tissue damage.
The body naturally produces the hormone insulin to shunt the sugar out of the bloodstream and into the cells where it can be used for energy. Under circumstances of chronic sugar and carbohydrate consumption and/or chronic inflammation, the insulin receptors become unable to effectively do their job. This is called insulin resistance, a condition that increases the level of glycation and resulting tissue damage in the body (1).
Glycation is the process that leads to atrocious conditions such as neuropathy, optic nerve destruction, and resulting blindness and kidney failure (2,3). Controlling glycation and the destructive effects of glycation is critical. Certain anti-oxidant and trace mineral compounds are highly effective at combatting the damaging effects of glycation and improving blood sugar signaling patterns.
WHAT IS INSULIN MANAGER?
Insulin Manager™ is an extraordinary combination of herbal and nutrient support for healthy glucose metabolism. It features concentrates of fenugreek, gymnema, and bitter gourd, the addition of high levels of vanadium along with select B vitamins and the mineral, chromium. This formula provides nutritional support for glucose and insulin metabolism and supports healthy blood lipid levels already within the normal range*
Chromium:
Nearly 50% of the US population is deficient in chromium which is greater than any other developed nation. This is due to overcropping that has stripped the land of chromium and processed food consumption. Chromium deficiencies lead to insulin resistance and cardiovascular dysfunction.
Chromium helps to activate the glucose transporter molecule within the cell called GLUT4. The GLUT4 receptor is found most abundantly in skeletal muscle and fat tissue where most glucose metabolism takes place (4, 5).
Chromium activates GLUT4 and it positions itself right on the surface of the cell membrane where it is easily able to interact with insulin and glucose (6). This allows glucose to pass from high concentrations in the blood to low concentrations in the cell through the GLUT4 bridge.
Chromium-based studies have repeatedly demonstrated improvement in blood sugar levels, insulin sensitivity, and lipid profiles. Chromium modulates the cell's intracellular signaling systems to effectively lower blood glucose (7, 8, 9, 10).
Vanadium:
One of the most effective natural treatments for diabetes is vanadium. This unique trace mineral works to lower blood sugar by mimicking insulin and improving the cells’ sensitivity to insulin (11, 12, 13).
Thiamin B1:
Thiamin activates glyceraldehyde phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH). Decreased availability of this enzyme has been implicated in diabetes complications such as blindness, nerve damage, kidney failure, stroke, and cardiovascular dysfunction (14)
Thiamin repletion in the case of a six-year-old girl with diabetes caused by a genetic mutation affecting thiamine transport demonstrated its benefits (15). Thiamin deficiency may cause diabetic neuropathy by decreasing transketolase, needed for normal myelinization, and thiamine monophasphatase, needed for primary sensory neuron function (16)
Niacin B3:
Niacin is required for lipid metabolism, tissue respiration, and glycogenolysis. It may preserve and protect Beta cells (17) In drug treatment Niacinamide improved insulin secretion (18).
Biotin: B7
Biotin helps support adrenal function, helps calm and maintain a healthy nervous system, and is necessary for key metabolic processes. Biotin is nicknamed “the beauty vitamin,” because of its association with healthy hair, skin, and nails.
Biotin, in very large doses (5-15 mgs) enhances the effects of enzymes involved in glucose metabolism. One small study even demonstrated the reversal of nerve damage (19).
Chromium and Biotin synergistically improve glucose tolerance (20)
Fenugreek Seed:
Fenugreek Seed and its constituent, 4-isoleucine appear to directly stimulate insulin (21). The combination of fenugreek with vanadium appeared to normalize altered membrane-linked functions and GLUT4 distribution (22). Fenugreek also assists in lowering high serum cholesterol and triglycerides.
Bitter Gourd:
Bitter Gourd (aka. bitter melon) contains an insulin-like polypeptide shown to exhibit hypoglycemic effects (23) with an onset of action between 30-60 minutes and a peak effect at about 4 hours (24). It is an approved drug in China to enhance insulin signaling (25).
Gymnema Sylvestre:
Gymnema sylvestre reduces fasting blood sugars, glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c), and glycosylated plasma protein levels and thus insulin requirements in Type 1 diabetics by reducing glucose absorption in the intestine, stimulating pancreatic beta cell growth and possibly increasing endogenous insulin secretion as suggested by an increase in C-peptide levels. Gymnema was shown to also assist in reducing serum triglycerides, total cholesterol, VLDL, and LDL (26).
