One of the most popular supplements in our society today is protein powder.  These powders come from a variety of different sources and a number of unique manufacturing processes.  Unfortunately, 95% of commercial protein powders have toxic ingredients that could be slowly inflaming your body and depleting the cellular nutrient stores.

Protein supplements can be a great addition to a healthy diet. This is due to their ability to provide essential and branched-chain amino acids in a highly absorbable form.  While there are many different protein sources only a few are of high quality.  Most commercial protein powders use inferior protein sources and fill their products with artificial sweeteners and preservatives that are highly toxic.

Soy Protein is an Anti-Nutrient:

The most common protein sources used in commercial powders include soy, egg, whey, & wheat gluten.  An intelligent consumer must be very suspicious of these.  Soy and gluten containing proteins are highly allergenic and promote inflammatory reactions within the body(1, 2, 3).

Soy protein is an anti-nutrient that should be avoided for several reasons.  Soy contains phytic acids that bind and pull major minerals such as iron, calcium, magnesium, & zinc from the body (4, 5, 6).  High processed soy consumption is linked with deficiencies in these major minerals.  Soy also contains enzyme inhibitors that turn off natural enzyme’s needed to perform critical cell functions (7, 8).  Goitrogenic substances that block thyroid hormone are highly prevalent in soy foods as well (9).

The Problem with Animal Protein Sources:

Animal protein that comes from animals raised in conventional factory farms are extraordinarilytoxic.  These animals are pumped full of dangerous hormones and anti-biotics while eating genetically modified, pesticide laden grains.  This combination causes massive amounts of toxic bioaccumulation within the animal tissue and animal byproducts.

Animal protein sources can be fantastic when they are from sustainably raised animals. This would include grass-fed cattle and pasture-raised chickens. Non-denatured whey protein is a superfood with anti-oxidant benefits and branched chain amino acids (10). Pasture-raised egg protein has the best all-round ratios of the various amino acids.

Unfortunately, many individuals have food sensitivities to dairy (casein and whey protein) and egg (albumin) and are unable to use these protein sources. Other individuals have chosen a vegan lifestyle and by either personal choice or religious obligations are restricted from using any animal sources.

The Benefits of SuperDigest Protein:

I am a huge fan of non-denatured whey protein from grass-fed cows, however, I have clinically seen that many individuals with leaky gut syndrome and auto-immune disease struggle with the whey.

For sensitive cases where people have pronounced sensitivities I prefer to use either brown rice, hemp or pea protein. Pea protein appears to be the most hypoallergenic of all protein powders and has a 98% absorption rate. This combination of brown rice and pea protein has a great blend of branched chain amino acids, lysine and arginine for lean body tissue development and good circulation

Pea & brown rice protein has also been shown to be very easy on the digestive system and the protein is fairly quickly assimilated into muscle tissue. This is important because slower digesting and assimilating proteins have a greater chance of producing gas and making one feel bloated. Most plant proteins have poor assimilation rates but pea, brown rice and hemp proteins are the rare exceptions.

SuperDigest Protein is a proprietary blend of highly digestible pea protein concentrate, pea protein isolate, glycine, taurine, rice protein concentrate, and L-glutamine. Aminogen is added to enhance protein digestion and absorption (11). The combination of pea protein and rice protein achieves an amino acid score of 100% and supports protein metabolism and healthy body composition (12).

Pea Protein is Rich in Branched Chain Amino Acids:

Pea protein is a complete protein with all essential amino acids and is particularly high in branched chain amino acids as well as arginine, lysine and phenylalanine. It has a very well balanced essential amino acid profile that fits the requirements set by the World Health Organization for adults.

Branched chain amino acids (BCAA’s) have been shown to keep the body in a state of muscle building all day long. This anabolic effect increases strength gains while helping the body to burn fat and improve lean body tissue.

The key BCAA’s include leucine, valine and isoleucine. Pea protein is the best non-animal source of these powerful BCAA’s and with its 98% absorbency rate it rivals whey protein for its effects on metabolism and lean body tissue.

Pea Protein is Rich in Arginine and Lysine:

Pea protein is one of the richest sources of the amino acid L-arginine. Arginine is a conditionally essential amino acid that the body can make unless it is under times of illness, stress or starvation. Arginine is a key precursor of nitric oxide (NO) which is responsible for healthy circulation. Arginine’s role in the formation of NO has made it a key supplement for individuals looking to improve their cardiovascular health, athletic and sexual performance.

Pea protein is also a great source of the essential amino acid L-lysine. This molecule plays many important roles in the body and must be consumed through the diet. In particular, lysine is the precursor of carnitine which is responsible for converting fatty acids into energy. It also plays an important role in the formation of collagen which is the building block of connective tissue regions such as bones, cartilage, skin and tendons.

Improves Cardiovascular Health:

Artinia® Chitin-Glucan is incorporated into SuperDigest Protein to support antioxidant activity and cardiovascular health. Artinia is a purified, insoluble, gluten-free fiber ingredient composed of chitin (N-acetyl-Dglucosamine) and beta(1,3)-glucan chains (13).

Artinia has been researched for its effects on maintaining oxidative balance and artery health, key components of cardiovascular health. A 12-week animal study indicated that chitin-glucan supports cardiovascular health by maintaining healthy arteries, reducing cardiac superoxide anion and liver malondialdehyde (markers of oxidation), and enhancing superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase activity (13).

Human trials have revealed significantly positive results as well. A six-week, multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study (n = 130)

of Artinia revealed that 1.5 g/d significantly supported subjects’ LDL cholesterol at levels already within normal range, and 4.5 g/d significantly supported subjects’ natural antioxidant systems and oxidative balance of LDL cholesterol (14,15).

A 28-day pilot study found Artinia to be safe and well-tolerated at a dose of 4.5 g/d (16). FIT Food Vegan Complete provides 2.25 g of Artinia per serving. Artinia is a healthy alternative to phytosterol supplementation and has not been observed to interfere with absorption of fat-soluble vitamins or antioxidants.*

Micronutrient Support

SuperDigest Protein delivers a balanced profile of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, nutrients vital to supporting the vast array of metabolic processes in the body (17). B vitamins are present in their bioactive forms, including riboflavin 5’-phosphate, pyridoxal 5’-phosphate, methylcobalamin, and 5-methyltetrahydrofolate as Quatrefolic® (18).

Super Digest Protein contains monkfruit in place of fructose. Animal and human research suggests that superfluous consumption of fructose increases visceral adiposity, disrupts lipid regulation, and elevates cardiometabolic risk (19, 20,21,22,23).

The conditionally essential amino acid glutamine is important for replenishing amino acid stores, especially after exercise or stress (24). Glutamine also supports intestinal cell proliferation and thereby preserves gut barrier function and intestinal health (25,26, 27)

This soluble fiber is fermented by colonic bacteria into short-chain fatty acids that exert a positive effect on lipid metabolism and support healthy colon transit time (28,29).

Introducing SuperDigest Protein

This is my go to hypoallergenic protein source. It is fantastic for anyone dealing with food sensitivities and auto-immune conditions. Easily digestible protein is important for everyone on the planet as it provides key amino acids that play a role in nearly every metabolic function.

Individuals with leaky gut syndrome, food sensitivities and auto-immune conditions are perhaps the ones the need good protein the most since their bodies compromised condition leads to inadequate amino acid absorption rates. SuperDigest Protein, which is beneficial for anyone, was specifically made for the most challenging health cases.

It is also the best protein source for vegans as it is a complete vegan based protein and has a fully absorbable vegan based methyl-cobalamin which is the most bioavailable form of vitamin B12.
